This
elephant standing on a cylinder was used to illustrate
the alleged indestructibility of the Lambert cellulloid
cylinder. Note the slogan "Can't Break Em"
etched in the illustration of the cylinder.
The Lambert Company of Chicago manufactured cylinders
from only 1900-1905, when repeated lawsuits from Edison
put Lambert out of business. Thomas Lambert experimented
with a variety of colors for the celluloid material,
and the pink ones,
made from 1902-1903, are the best loved today.
The solution used to dye the records was actually supposed
to reduce surface noise!
We've collected 22 of these very rare Lambert titles
for our Pink
Lambert CD.
