"If He Can Fight Like He Can Love (Good Night, Germany)"
by Farber Sisters

Sheet music from the Archeophone Records collection

"If He Can Fight Like He Can Love," despite its salacious references to park benches and Morris chairs, is another in a long line of lyrics that solicits denial from the American public. The singer here is certain that her beau will end the war quickly if he applies his skills to war like he has applied them to her honor ("he's a bear in any Morris chair"). The Farber Sisters, an early precursor to the Andrews Sisters continue, "If he's just half as good in a trench / As he was in the park on a bench"—oh my. "If he can fight," we are assured, "like he can love, then it's goodnight Germany."
